love of tea

I love tea. Sneaking sips here and there of my mother's black tea when I was little is my first memory of tea drinking. I enjoyed the taste then and still do. I don't care for the taste of coffee and I'm glad. Tea is my bag...no pun intended!

ancient tea

One of my new favorite teas is a very strong, earthy blend from Upton Tea called Ancient Pu-Erh Maiden.

Made with select leaves from over 1,000 year old tea trees, this grade is rarely offered in the U.S. market. And their desciption of the tea is dead on for its full body, rich earthy flavor and silky sweet finish. Along with a strong, strong aroma, it just oozes richness. I loved it, but I think it might be far too strong for some.

I was lucky enough to be given a very special gift two years ago. I inherited the lovely silver tea service that my great-grandmother used to use. I was very honored to receive it and think of the history of each piece when I use it. I'm more of the English-type of tea than the Chinese traditional. Although I'm fascinated by the rituals behind the tradition of taking a Chinese tea

I had frozen half a batch of scones. The weather was absolutely perfect, I had received a new order of my favorite loose tea, so I baked up the scones and did it up right with a proper tea out on the deck. Complete with a Lily in the sugar bowl and jelly & butter in the creamer pot. Click below to view the photos or watch the slide show below.

favorite teas

I prefer black, strong tea, with nothing in it and Fortnum & Mason's "Fortmason" tea is spot on for me. I discovered this lovely tin at the British tea shop in EPOC at Disney. It can sometimes be difficult to find in the states and it IS expensive, so it's a very special tea for me and it always reminds me of Disney, which I also happen to love.

I just discovered Yunnan Jig from Adagio Tea and think this is fantastic. I will be trying their Yunnan Gold soon.

I think that the best Earl Grey that I've ever had is Bigelow's Sterling Silver Loose. I don't care for their decaf Earl Grey, but the full-bodied, full-caffeine tea is fabulous. Again, I don't like anything in my tea either, so no milk or sugar for me.

Another favorite from Bigelow Teas is "Constant Comment". The name says it all. Once you smell it, you'll know it.

And how could I forget the ever-popular Celestial Seasonings. I think they have the best peppermint & spearmint teas. However, they have added so many different varieties recently. I may try their Organic Black Tea.
