| "Mom! I
made friends!" Kesia greeted her mother, after her first
day of school. And, sure enough, she had addresses and phone
numbers of two of her classmates. She also complained about
a boy who follows her around and smiles at her "for no good
reason!"
On Tuesday, her second
day of school, she got to go to Pizza Hut and play on a big slide
in the play area. The slide had a big drop and she went down
really fast!
At Academia Americana
Kesia is learning Spanish from her friends, and she has to buy her
snacks, rather than having them provided. She goes to school
early in the morning, at 6:50 and gets out at 1:15, because it is
too hot to go to school in the afternoon.
Seth is also learning
Spanish, and his English teacher has warned him not to trust any
of his friends to teach him Spanish words. "They will
trick you and you will get sent to the principal's office because
of the words that you are saying," he explains. Seth
is enjoying playing soccer during the lunch break.
Both kids have so many books to carry, that they take a small suitcase
to school, rather than a backpack. They have a lot of homework
and say the teachers are pretty strict. Kesia was waned that
she had to trim her fingernails and remove her nail polish on the
first day of school, and the principal told Seth, after seeing his
passport picture when he had long, braided hair, that he never would
have been allowed in to the school looking like that.
