We were commissioned in January, 2004 to work as missionaries through Common Global Ministries, a common witness of the Division of Overseas Ministries, Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and Wider Church Ministries, United Church of Christ to work in Honduras.  Bruce will work in health ministries and Linda will work both in pastoral ministries and as a physical therapist.

Bruce and Linda Hanson both grew up in Iowa.  They met while attending Ames High School and married 27 years ago.  They have five children including Rachel, age 25 who is now living with them in Honduras and teaching at a bilingual school, Eric, age 22, a student at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa and Joseph, age 20, a student at North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City, Iowa.  Living with us in Honduras are Seth, age 11 and Kesia, age 9.  Eric is married to Rebecca, and they are the parents of Adrienne Ariadne, born March 2, 2004.

Bruce has worked in construction, in landscaping and most recently as a registered nurse at the local nursing home in Belmond, Iowa.  Linda has worked as a physical therapist for over twenty years, and recently completed her Master of Divinity degree at United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities, and was ordained as a pastor in the United Church of Christ on December 28, 2003.

YAHWEH will guide you continually, and satisfy your needs in parched places, and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters never fail.

--Isaiah 58:  11

It is hard to beleive that we have already spent more than a year in Honduras.  How quickly the time goes.  There is so much left that we want to do!

Our language skills have improved and we are able to communicate most of the time.  Our children are adjusting to their schools, have a better command of Spanish than we do, and have friends and after-school activities.  Kesia is in swimming lessons and Seth in drum lessons.

Currently we are busy teaching a health class in the seminary, working with moms and children in the Nutrition Center, hosting groups that are visiting, helping with marketing and organization of the clinics, and working with mothers and their families in villages.  We also continue to find people with special health needs that we bring to San Pedro for treatment.

Our ministry here is incredibly rewarding and incredibly frustrating.  We suspect that most ministry is the same.
