Kennedy Elementary Mrs. Nelson

Upcoming Highlights: We will begin our writers' workshop that will challenge all students to research an animal of their choice and present their research in the format of a powerpoint slideshow. We will also continue working on multiplication during math.

Reading: We completed Theme 5 of our reading series. The skills we learned include: making inferences, text organization, drawing conclusions, suffixes, adjectives, and adverbs. We took the test this past week.
Math: We finished our unit on fractions prior to mid-winter break. Many students will need to continue to practice this skill. The test is in today's Friday Folder. We will continue to work on multiplication of multiple digit numbers.
Writing: We completed two scrapbook pages this past week. One described our break activities and the other about St. Patrick's Day.

Mid-Winter Break Sharing

We all loved to hear about what our friends did during our mid-winter break. So many fun stories!!! Congratulations to those that also read over break and turned in their homework sheets.

Book order: I've decided to do one book order this spring, which will also be the last one of the year. Please return the orders with checks written out to Scholastic by Friday, March 27th. Thanks!

MCA tests will be April 21, 22 on math; April 28, 29 on reading.

Please continue to encourage your child to complete homework on time. It is that time of year when playing outside and other activities begin and school work begins to become difficult to complete.
Thanks!

We will be working very hard on our research reports and powerpoint presentations. Two students from St. Ben's will join us next week as well. Their help will be wonderful.

We will begin test taking strategies and discussion about the MCAs and the preparation for these tests.
