Lose your shoes ... What is it?

One of my readers asked me "I'm sorry but... huh? I'm majorly missing something, but I love loosing shoes. What is this about?"

"Lose your shoes ... save some souls" is a brainchild of my daughter Kayla. Her goal is to help the poor of Mexico to obtain shoes, especially for the kids, who cannot afford them. She has teamed with Harvest Evangelism, a local organization that has also been involved in this sort of relief for some time.

Ways to participate:

(1) Financial donation: if you're out of town, or you don't have good shoes to donate, you can write a tax-deductible check to Harvest Evangelism http://www.harvestevangelism.org/
P.O. Box 2888
Opelika, AL 36803

Telephone:
(334) 332-3932
(334) 524-6264

and designate your donation for the Lose your Shoes, Save some Souls campaign.

(2) Donate shoes. There are drop boxes at Lakeview Baptist Church (Auburn) and the Harvest Thrift store (Opelika)

(3) Kayla is suggesting to her fellow college students that they walk barefoot, partly to understand the need for shoes, partly to publicize the campaign. I don't know if I suggest that for people who haven't gone barefoot much. She's got some pretty sore feet after yesterday!

I am proud to see my kids taking an interest in expressing their faith in a practical way like this. I'm also pleased to see her working with Harvest Evangelism; I've know the founders, Rick and Kim Hagans, for nearly 20 years, and am humbled and impressed by the personal sacrifices they have made to care for the "forgotten people" both here and abroad. If you'd like to participate in this campaign, I can vouch for their work. (Well, I can vouch for their work either way, but you know what I mean.)
