Why I will never buy another Handspring Treo

My personal experience with reliability and support at Handspring (just as they changed over to Palm One). My experience is only one data point, and my colleagues are generally happy with their Treos, but ... well read on.
Update 1/5/2004 Take a look at the iPaq! It has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth right there! And with PocketMac you can sync it to a macintosh!

MobileMe vs .Mac: Why on earth did Apple get rid of iCards?

Ok, it was a silly simple thing, but it was fun to send picture birthday cards from .Mac. It's yet another feature of .Mac that has disappeared. Each year I wonder to myself ... is it worth it to keep using Apple for my web services? The photo below, taken from http://www.flickr.com/photos/macsmiley/2837686361/ , reflects my own opinion as well.

iPhone: not what it's cracked up to be

Sure, I could attempt to write another earth shattering discussion of faith and cancer, but how 'bout a few moments of fun?

Prior reviews: "But I thought the iPhone was actually useful!" and "iPhone: I was wrong (sort of). There is a to do list manager."

Short review: After using the iPhone for a few months, here are my impressions:
If you want to browse the web wherever you go, it's fun. If you want a useful PDA/cell phone, it's not even as good as a treo.  No cut and paste, no searching, lousy interface to contact database in the phone application (but not in SMS and email - go figure). It's cute, it works, but it's lacking the quality of user interface I used to expect from Apple.

One of my students read my blog and gave me permission to post his reply. Read on:

A great printer - when it works. Expect to clean the heads frequently (and, therefore, buy lots of ink).

The saga of our broken macintosh

Compilation of weblog entries of our iMac G4 and it's demise. On one hand, I was upset that Apple didn't take rapid action until I called. On the other hand, they took rapid action both times that I called, and in the latter case went further than I would have in their position.

I am a satisfied customer. I also recommend the purchase of AppleCare (their extended warranty).

PocketMac: sync a PocketPC device to a Macintosh

12/20 pretty good, but not quite what it needs to be yet
12/21 I've already received a response from PocketMac support on these issues. They're doing the best they can!
1/5/2004 Problems mostly cleared up. Don't use recurring to-do items on your pocketPC!

LOSAT: the "slow" kinetic kill missile.

1.8 megabyte mpeg. This one does Mach 1-2; more recent missiles are up to 5x faster. That's what people will admit to, anyway. They usually just say, "Mach many."

There is NO warhead. The power at impact comes strictly from kinetic energy and a tungsten rod down the middle of the missile.
