Advice to a young groomGiven to my niece's fiancé at their
rehearsal dinner.
As you look forward to your life together,
it is important to bear in mind certain principles of the Bible that will
strengthen your upcoming marriage. Many people view the Bible as a sexist book,
but this viewpoint should not discourage you from putting into practice these
precepts that are, I think, essential to a happy married
life.
In Genesis chapter 2, the Bible says "It is not good for the man to be alone." Keep in mind that there is no corresponding verse about women. It's the man that God says needs supervision. Not only that, but the problem is so severe that God himself apparently doesn't feel up to the task, and so he brought this woman into your life. So, at some future date when you have a disagreement with your wife, remember what I've told you. Take a few moments to remember what God says about you, and then humbly look at your wife and ask her what your opinion is. I'll be posting additional installments in future blog entries.
