Has Apple abandoned iSync?

I love the mac os, but it's getting frustrating trying to find a compatible smart phone.

I've been using an iPaq 6315 for about 4 years now. That, of course means, that T-mobile doesn't sell it anymore (nor does HP, I think). The only way to sync this "smartphone" is with either MissingSync or PocketMac, which I wrote about here.

Well, there's been several mildly annoying things along the way: how the phone can take up to 5 seconds to let me hear a call after I try to answer it; how PocketMac sometimes gets its data files corrupted and there's no way to do a device reset, etc., except to do a hardware reset, which erases any other software I've installed as well.

Of late I've thought about upgrading. Unfortunately, with the advent of the iPhone, Apple has a vested interest in not supporting other devices. It's nearly impossible to find any recently released smartPhones that are Apple compatible, perhaps except for PalmOS Treos (Which, again, have been discontinued by T-mobile.)

The general reviews I see of PocketMac products for Blackberry and WIndows Mobile items indicate that they're still kind of buggy and annoying. As I wrote before, when PocketMac works, it works well. When it doesn't work, it's pretty bad.

I would prefer not to spend $400-$500 on a device when I've already got something that works; unfortunately, my former statement that it works "mostly" is still true.
