Blogging software for Mac OS X: iBlog, iWeb, and RapidWeaver

Based on a comment from Pastor Mark (do take a look at the videos on that web page!), I downloaded the beta of RapidWeaver and tried it out here. (This post copied from a comment I left on his web page).

The demo limits you to three web pages. A blog apparently counts as only one web page, so I was able to exercise the program enough to make it interesting.

There is a lot of on-line help. It's in wiki form, so some patience may be required. For example, I can't figure out how to put a link to my home page in the side-bar. That was only 5 min effort though.

Relative to iBlog, it has advantages and disadvantages. The biggest down side are the 500 blog entries and (almost) 120 movie reviews that I would have to transferred over. Ick! Like iBlog, RapidWeaver doesn't seem to have a clean way to put a link from one blog to another. It also lacks a hyperlink toolbar, so you have to type in the anchor yourself.

Both iBlog and RapidWeaver are miles ahead of iWeb, which I found annoying in very short order. I may write about that after I get past my moratorium on depressing blog entries.

Apparently a new version of iBlog is in development, see here. However, Pastor Mark has had problems with iBlog on his macbook pro. I haven't moved my blogging to my macbook pro (it's mostly for number crunching right now), so I can't speak to that.
Funny thing, though: when I run iTunes on the macbook pro, sometimes the sound gets distored like a record player that isn't quite holding a steady speed. Those who have never used a turntable don't know what that means. THose who have used a turntable may be wondering how iTunes could do that. So am I.
Anyway, if you're looking for inexpensive but usable blogging software for the mac, iBlog or RapidWeaver are good choices.
