LBC youth lesson for Sept. 16: Why a covenant?

Our curriculum http://studentlifebiblestudy.com/ topic this year is covenant.

For the next three weeks we introduce the concept of a covenant. Our primary passage tomorrow is Heb 8:7-13. A relevant concept of covenant that is different from a contract is outlined by Paul in Gal 3:15:

Brothers, let me take an example from everyday life. Just as no one can set aside or add to a human covenant that has been duly established, so it is in this case.

Contracts often have amendments put on them, but covenants are not amended. For example, consider the marriage covenant. If someone were to say to their husband or wife, "Hey, how about if we date other people?" this would be completely unacceptable: the marriage vows (the covenant) make it plain that we "forsake all others." So it is with God's covenants: they are not amended.

So why are there more than one covenant in the Bible? That's a topic for future weeks.

Coming up next week
Gal 3:17-25.

Sunday 9.30 Gal 2:17-21.

I'm looking for volunteers from the class to teach on either of the next two weeks. I'll be there; I just want to give you the opportunity to try to teach.
