I am embarrassed. Mike Murdock: please stop. Now.

During the channel flipping that occasionally results from my rest from my convalenscence, I briefly see the so-called Christian channels. Mike Murdock, 2 out of 3 times, is saying, "send in your $1000 seed of faith ..." or something like that.

Grrr.

The idea is the perversion of biblical promises such as Luke 6:38 "Give and it shall be given to you ..." etc. There is a claim that if you give "x" amount of dollars, you can expect a 100 fold return.

In the world of television evangelism, this turns from a legitimate promise of God into the claim of an exponential growth reminiscent of a ponzi scheme. His pitch is beautifully designed to transform personal greed for the American Dream (tm) into a self-proclaimed act of worship: give God some money, and "he'll send you your harvest."

It sounds great, but apparently there's a problem. It's not working, and it's not working often enough that he had take action.

Today he was being interviewed on Paula White's TV show, hawking his new book, 31 Reasons People Do Not Receive Their Financial Harvest.

I'm guessing that "Because you're donating money to Mike Murdock" is not one of the given reasons.

[As a footnote, apparently Paula White only asks for $200 seed faith gifts, vs. Murdock's requests for $1000 seed faith gifts. There's something going in there, but I can't put a finger on it..]
