News from Auburn: Sat Oct 18 2008
This week has been very uneventful. The
kids have independently gone to the beach for the weekend (different groups).
They continue to get better grades than I did in college. My friend
of 40 years - since 1st grade - is coming to visit this weekend!
Yay!
Health
updateI have not used a wheelchair since
last week Wednesday (my last appt at UAB). I have been walking on my
cul-de-sac - very slowly, but getting in some distance. Yesterday I took
my last dose of steroids for pneumonitis. Those of you who have weaned off
of steroids understand what that means for the short term. I had a bit of
a fever last night, but I'm feeling better
now.The date for my follow-up PFT
(pulmonary function test) at UAB has been confirmed. I have two more weeks
to get in shape. I'm debating taking up the flute again to work on my
breathing.
:-)NewsThere
has been an epidemic of email forwards of late. You know what I mean:
these are the "inspirational stories" that get recycled around the web every
couple of years, sent from person to person as a poor man's replacement
for actual personal communication.
Sadness.I've seen most of these
stories at least 3 times. I have been desensitized. Either that or
I've looked at snopes.com and found out they weren't
true.More than that, for over 10 years
I've been sending out personalized email - okay, it's a mass mailing, but it's
NEW - as an attempt to revive the lost art of letter
writing. So, if you want to send me a
forward, you may do so, but you HAVE to send me at least two personal emails for
every forward you send. Otherwise, I may just have to put some friends
onto my junk mail filter.I have
cancer. I'm allowed to be a little cranky. I need news and contact,
not fluffy recycled syrup stories!"And
that's all I got to say about that." --- Forrest
GumpOh, and my hair is still coming
back in: (the goatee is due to the pattern of radiation induced hair loss
on my neck and jaw. No trimming/shaving
involved.)
