Made of Honor

Made of Honor is not your regular chick flick.  Instead of following the girl pining over the clueless guy we watch the guy pine over the girl who gave up on the guy of her dreams... which happened to be him.

I saw this one with my best friend.  It looked cute and promising and it was at that.  With a few exceptions of some guy humor (i mean, REALLY - it's a CHICK flick!), overall the film was funny, cute, and lived up to it's promising trailers.

There's not a whole lot to say about it... I won't be the first to admit that chick flicks aren't exactly the top of the movie totem pole at The Oscars.  However, I'll probably be 4th or 5th.  Chick flicks aren't made to have the best screen plays, actors and actresses, or cinematics.  They're made to get a girl to go all sappy and cry about a happy ending where the guy gets the girl...

So- in lieu of a complete review and spoilers, here's a quick synopsis of your standard chick flick.

In the beginning there was a guy and a girl.  They didn't know each other but throughout the opening credits it becomes apparent that it probably won't stay that way for long.

Right after the last obscure actor's name is splashed up on the screen the girl (insert any variation of guy meets girl - or vice versa - plot) meets the guy.  They either hit it off immediately or hate each other.  Either way for at least 5-20 minutes of the film the girl will not be happy with the guy.

The two get to know each other over coffee, dinner, sports games, drinking way too much, and will probably realize that they're meant to be.  Of course, for a plot twist only one could realize this and the rest of the film is spent trying to convince the other that it's true:  they're meant to fall in love and live happily ever after.

Insert wrench in the whole process:  skeletons in the closet, another guy/girl that happens to be super hot or amazingly rich/talented/funny.  This is where the girl is upset with the guy for 5-20 minutes of the film (note: this is just an average.  Actual times vary according to which company produced the film).

Then, just when we think all hope for this couple-made-by-God is lost, a moving speech, flowers, or some random rainstorm causes the girl (or guy) to rethink the anger held against the once significant other.

A long-awaited kiss/wedding and the credits roll with a cheesy pop love song.
