Last Will and Testament of Zachariah Lamb, Perquimans Co., NC
In the name of God , the 19th day of the 12th month in the year of our
Lord 1801, I Zachariah Lamb in the County of Perquimans, I at present
being weak of body but in perfect mind and memory, thanks be given to
God. Therefore calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing
that it is appointed for all men once to die, and I do make and ordain
this to be my Last Will and Testament. That is to say, Principally
and first of all , I give and reccomend my soul unto the hand of God
that gave it and for my body I reccomend it unto the earth to be
buried in a Christian and decent like manner at the discretion of my
executors. And as touching such wordly estate wherewith it hath
pleased God to bless mee with in this life, I give, devise and dispose
of the same in the following manner and form.
My just debts to paid and funeral charges to be satisfied first. I
give unto my loving wife Miriam Lamb all my estate during her natural
life or widowhood, and it is my desire that my wife should have the
use of all my lands and plantation her lifetime or widowhood .
Secondly, I give and bequeath unto my two sons William and Chalkey
Lamb all my lands to be equally divided, both the high and the low
between them at their coming to twenty one years of age by men of
their own choosing. And if either of them should die without heir for
the other to inherit the whole , to them and their heirs forever. And
it is my desire that all my buildings should be equally divided
between my two sons by the persons that divides the lands, and that
neither of them shall sell their land to any other person but one to
the other's brother.
Thirdly, I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary Lamb one horse
named Bird, one feather bed and furniture and one cow an dcalf, one
pine table, and one linning wheel, to her and her heirs forever.
Fourthly, I give and bequeath to my daughter Betty Lamb one feather
bed and furniture, one cow and calf, and one large leather trunk, one
loom and gears, one linnign wheel and one table, to her and her heirs
forever.
Fifthly, I give to my son William Lamb one feather bed and furniture
and one cow and calf, and one safe, to him and his heirs forever.
Sixthly, I give unto my son Chalkey Lamb one feather bed and
furniture, one cow and acalf, one desk, to him and his heirs forever.
Seventhly, it is my desire that all the remaining part of my estate
shall be equally divided among my four children, to them and ther
heirs forever.
Eightly, and lastly I do contitute and appoint my loving wife Miriam
Lamb and Restore Lamb to be my executors to this my Last Will and
Testament to see it fullfilled and performed, and I do hereby revoke
and disannul all former Will of Wills by me heretofore made,
ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my Last Will and
Tesament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal
this nineteenth day of December in the year of our Lord, Eighteen
hundred and one. Signed, sealed and delivered in the presence of us,
