I noticed that Heizer sells an xfcn enabling SuperCard to send & receive AppleScript. However, it mentions version 1.7. Does SC 2.5 do AppleScript, or, if not, will Heizer's xfcn work with it?
TIA,
Mike

SuperCard 2.5 continues to have robust Apple event support, but does not support AppleScript directly. Fourth World continues to publish and support the AppleScript for SuperCard XCMD package, which is available from Heizer or directly through Fourth World and is compatible with SuperCard 2.5.
Please feel free to contact me anytime if I can provide additional info.

which is a HUGH shortcomming. applescripts extends the power
of hypercard substantially. with it, hypercard would not be neearly
as useful, this sounds like another good reason to shun supercard.
While I agree that AppleScript is a useful component, remember that the
majority of people using SuperCard simply do not express a strong desire
for this feature. Certainly it is often requested, but not nearly as much
as so many other things which are finding their way into the product
sooner. Fourth World offers a package which will get the job done in the
meantime for those that need it now.
SuperCard's strongest audience today seems to come from people delivering
either commercial cross-platform multimedia tools and content, or
in-house developers who often need to support mixed environments, as in
most universities. Although the Windows player is still in development,
reports of the beta appear strong and the product seems on schedule for a
December release.
If there were Windows version of AppleScript, a la QuickTime, we might
have something truly powerful for delivering commercial products. But as
it is, AppleScript will only run on 10% of the machines SuperCard will be
capable of running on next year.
And even in Mac-only environment, Apple's departure from the de facto
standard they worked so hard to establish with HyperTalk renders
AppleScript unnecessarily cumbersome.
It's cool for what it does, but its usefulness is limited by its Mac-only
nature and its abandonment of the estimated 250,000+ fluent HyperTalkers
out there.
