Born into the extreme poverty of the sharecroppers universe, the Maddox family was even further impoverished during the depression years. When they lost their little farm they became Hobos en route to California, where they made their life as fruitpickers. Tired of the work two of the brothers started to play on a radio show in 1937. In order to get the job they brought along their eleven year old sister Rose as the female singer. Their career was cut short by WWII, and Rose applied as a singer for Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys. Wills turned her down and Rose threatended him that she will turn him out of business as soon as her brothers return from the war. Wills is reported to have bursted into laughter, but Rose was right. In the postwar years she and her brothers became Rock'n"Roll in all except for the name.Their stage performance was the wildest an weirdest imaginable.
They continued to perform for some years never making a real breakthrough. Rose would keep on performing as a hugely popular singer, enchanting the Rockabilly audiences all over the world until her death in 1998.
