Distracted...

A few tweaks on "The Bird", more on ArchimelesX....

The roller-coaster ride continues; didn't feel much like messing with "The Burny Bird" yesterday (Friday) after all, so futtsed around with

ArchimelesX

and the server-side PHP program a bit. It's amazing sometimes how simple things are once you have found the key and understand them. (Had we but world enough and time, what could we not accomplish?)

Anyway, ArchimelesX will simply plug into a special version of the code already in place for the browser version of the archive administration interface, which uses a three-stage process:

1. Enter raw message text data (with or without initial clean-up editing) and submit;

(The server script processes the data to extract relevant parts, eliminate irrelevant details [headers info] and insert initial HTML tags.)

2. Edit the results as needed; and

3. Submit for entry into the archive database.

Here's what the interface looks like at the moment:

(Larger version here)

The second (right) window opens upon receipt of the result message from the server and closes when the user commits the message to the database.
The main (control) window also sports a preferences setting sheet, as shown.

I realize it would probably be better to do the data extraction and text formatting in the app itself and submit those results to the server for insertion, but since the scripts are already operational and I have no idea where to start doing regex stuff in an app, I've decided on this approach for now.

(Feedback on the browser interface would be nice, by the way! The URL is http://mailarch.ospgli.org/. Members only, ID & password required. Send me a note if you missed these on the mailing list.)
