After a long wait, here are the 1976 Cheetah pictures.
Here is Rick Jack's 1976 Arctic Cat Cheetah 5000.
Rick is my Father in Law, and this sled is the one my wife Shelley and her brother Jamie grew up with. (after they grew out of their Kitty Kat). This was in storage in Shelley's Grandfather's shop near Devils Lake ND until last fall. It hadn't been run in several years. After I started working on the Panther, I talked rick into getting the old sled down to Fargo so we could get it running. It didn't take long to get it running at all, as it had been 'pickled' quite well. He replaced the gas and started it up! We all went for a good long ride south of Fargo last winter and this sled led the way.
This sled was a pretty hot sled in its day. Rick says he made plenty of midnight rides when he was a little bit younger. I think he and this sled still have a good many of those rides left. The sled does need a bit of work before next season, and with any luck, I'll be able to help him get it ready.
The Fan cooled spirit powerplant is still quite potent and can hold its own against today's modern sleds in acceleration. Granted, its suspension is dated, but its straight line acceleration is downright exiting
