There's some great reading in it, and even a little book with the best of Oprah's, "What I Know for Sure". There are so many things in there I know we all can relate to, so I' m going to write down a few of my own thoughts based on them. My first thought relates back to a topic that was started this week about "Who do you put first...your husband or your children?" I think Mommy23 started it, and before the topic was deleted (not sure why) the major concensus was that most of us put our children first. But I think we often overlook who we should be putting first -- ourselves. Women often have the tendancy to forget about themselves and put everyone's needs before their own. We are always rushing here and there...doing this and that, totally exhasting our last breath to make sure everyone around us is happy. Then, at the end of the day, we may take time for ourselves...or just go to bed, too tired to even think. We really have to learn to take care of ourselves...because if we don't, who will? In order to care for others, we have to first care for ourselves. I know this is a hard concept to wrap our brains around, but in reality, doesn't it make sense? You have all heard the old saying, "If Mama ain't happy...ain't no one happy." -- how true is that? Our children sense our unhappiness, and our relationships feel it too. It may not be about being happy or not...just that at the end of the day of caring for everyone else, sooner or later it will catch up with you. Taking care of ourselves should be our first priority...then everything else will fall smoothly into place. Today -- take time for yourself, be it 15 minutes or 1 hour...time where you are in total control of you, no distractions. Take a breath...and find yourself. |
