Gaga

1000083006
I'm coming back to say that I was not a true Lady Gaga fan until 3 nights ago. Her horrifying VMA performance and wardrobe changes were what did it. She is an installation artist, and I love me some art installations.

From a recent interview with Newsweek:

"It's less of me singing the song, and more of an art installation. A performance-art piece. It's very well-designed and thought out, and we've been planning it for months and months. It is for me a very meaningful performance, [for] where I am in my career, as well as the experiences I've had, as well as the co-headlining tour I'm going on in the fall. […] I sort of have this philosophy about things: there's never a reason to do something unless it's going to be memorable, unless it's going to change things, unless it's going to inspire a movement. With the song and with the performance, I hope to say something very grave about fame and the price of it."

Please note –– she's genius. I would post her performance here, but it's currently being hunted down and removed from Youtube by MTV.

Microblogging

Microblogging on Facebook sometimes makes me self-concious. Like I'm subjecting people to read my updates and links, and looking like I have nothing better to do (when in reality I just log in a few times a day to check for messages or when I've taken a break / found something to post)… I could do it on Twitter, but I haven't managed to convince myself to fully commit to it yet.

I no longer feel the urge to post the 'micro stories' to my actual blog -- I think that's one of the main reasons I fell out of love with blogging; I exhausted myself, and could no longer keep up with everything I wanted to share. Plus FB makes it so damn easy to share a link!

So links and mini-stories will stay on FB..
Thoughts, rants and life updates = blog?
(And if I piss off too many ppl with my FB updates, then I'll adopt Twitter and leave FB a communication tool?) :P

Let's see how that formula works. :)

Dear Talentless Hack,

I like my celebs with talent. I like a little scandal. But I like them to have class, capable of being humble.

I dislike how Kanye West is so completely devoid of common sense. In a show being dedicated to the 'greatest entertainer the world has ever seen', the greatest douche bag the world has ever seen needed to remind us how he will never be in the league of greats like Michael Jackson.

Let alone the sore-loser antics of the past. This time he ruined possibly one of the greatest moments thus far in a young new artist's career. I will never buy a single, an album, or go to a concert that this loser puts out. I implore you to do the same.

*k fine, he's not talentless.. He's a tactless hack. And his douchebaggery far eclipses his talent. That's all.

VMAs

MTV VMAs were an amazing show, really impressed.

Highlights:

1. Beyoncé's performance was quite possibly the fiercest thing I've ever seen. I was actually kinda scared.

2. Lady Gaga's performance was royally disturbing (as were her multiple outfits throughout the evening), but I ate it up. F'd up performance art / living art installation = confuse the shit outta people = AWESOME.

3. Pink's performance was amazing, I love her. She's incredibly gorgeous + I love her small (thus, gravity defying) boobs!

4. Madonna's MJ eulogy literally had me crying. The montage / dance tribute was amazing. JJ was amazing performing Scream / I love how they'd removed her from the video screen and had her instead standing in place performing live.

5. Love love looooove Beyonce for being such a classy lady and handing the mic to Taylor Swift when she herself had won for video of the year.

New Site!

So I've put up a new portfolio! Check out www.iammore.ca.

My concept / thinking behind this site --
1. Resumes, cover letters and interviews can be dreadful! Cover letters need to be short so the employer actually reads it. Resumes are a constrained / established format -- there's no room for expressing your passion for the position, or expressing anything interesting about yourself. And interviews are high stress; things can go wonky -- either under the pressure the interviewee doesn't get to express everything they want to say (been there!) or the interviewer doesn't ask enough / "the right" questions. I decided I had enough with the limited formats above -- I wanted to create a platform where I get to actually tell the employer about myself in a fun, engaging way; a way for them to get to know my personality, as well as my background and experience.

2. Thus, being different & a bit quirky was the mandate.

3. Likely few that are applying for the jobs I'm looking for (project management) will have a portfolio. This is a way to stand out, and get employers' attention. Even if they don't look at the site -- the fact that I have one, and that I've dedicated time and effort to put one together will hopefully be noticed.

4. Think of it as an "ad campaign" for myself. Note the theme "I am more" carried throughout from the URL to the tagline to the navigation.

5. The branding carries through to my actual pdf resume / CV which has consistent design.

6. I acknowledge that it's unconventional and possibly even frowned upon to not have the menu available on the first page... but I want to take them on a journey under my terms (see bullet 1). :)

Next task will be updating this blog!

P.S. I'll be adding more content to the portfolio site in the following days and weeks.. from completing the "case studies" section, to adding a short bio, to possibly even adding an "easter egg".. ;) Keep checking.

Living off the grid.

Living relatively frugally (and responsibly -- seemingly an odd concept to most of my generation?) feels scary and also oddly tittilating.

It's kinda fun cooking food at home (read: frozen pizzas, chicken strips, sandwiches :P).. Going out is a treat, even McDonald's.

Please god, let me get a job asap. I promise I'll be slightly less responsible than I am now, but more responsible than I was. :)

Mac OS X - I want them to fix this

1. I want Time Machine to become more intelligent. Stop insisting on starting a backup as soon as I boot my computer or wake it from sleep -- I need resources at that time! Also, be intelligent enough to acknowledge when I'm NOT on my home network, thus, AWAY from my backup Airdisk -- that way you don't waste time / resources preparing a backup only to realize 10 minutes later that the drive's not there. This should be obvious.

2. I want iCal to go back to how it was in Tiger. That was 2 operating systems ago, pre-Snow Leopard, pre-Leopard! It worked better, it required fewer clicks to edit changes to an event. Don't make me do so much work.

3. iCal in Snow Leopard is more annoying. When you move / modify an event that someone else is invited to, it asks you multiple times if you'd like to notify other parties. NO. Fuck off, stop acting like Microsoft designed you.

4. I want shared calendars in iCal that multiple people can edit. This shouldn't be hard.

5. I want iSync's phone drivers to keep pace with new phones... I still can't sync my Nokia 6301, and it's not even a new phone!

Sparkle™

I've concluded that I'm going through an evolution; a growth spurt for my abilities and creativity. I'm currently experiencing growing pains. However, I will eventually attain "Sparkle", which is realizing my potential.

Please poke me with a hot iron prod until I Sparkle.

That's all.
