JO Nationals: Top Flight performances from Miami
 |
The P3R 17 Hot Metal team kicked off the National Championships but ran into a buzzsaw of talent and barely winning one of their first seven matches and dropping a few heartbreakers in the third set. They rebounded in the challenge round and into playoffs but then losing to Northside Out in the Flight #6 finals in another close one. The 18 Fort Duquesne team ran into a similar situation by dropping their first six matches but then turning the tide to win four-straight and winning the finals of Flight #4 against Asics MAVS. Congratulations to both teams for tremendous seasons and prestigious trips to the big show. P3R was the ONLY area club to have ANY teams qualify for nationals in the last 2 years sending one last year and TWO this year. Impressive work, ladies. Good luck to all seniors as you move on to your college careers!!!
Two P3R players seleted for top USAV programs

At the Keystone Region National Bid Tournament in Williamsport, PA this weekend, the P3R 18 Fort Duquesne and 17 Hot Metal teams both finished in second place, good enough to earn an American allocation bid to USA Volleyball's Girls Junior Olympic Volleyball Championships in Miami, FL. The 17 Hot Metal team also took care of business until the finals and some are attributing the teams sucess to Coach Russell's two different shoes. (Below)
In other action in Williamsport, the P3R 15 Birmingham team had mixed success throughout pool play which bumped them to the silver bracket. Then in the playoff round, they ran the table and avenged an earlier loss to Infinity Blue in the finals to capture the Silver championship. Great Job!!!
