A modest success
I dug up a second form of documentation on the
list I needed to get the replacement birth certificate, so that got sent in
today. It's still weird, though, because what I'm getting out of this process is
that it really is easy for someone to end up so far off the grid that they have
no reliable (official and viable) means of getting back on. It's an uncommon
combination of circumstances, certainly, but much less difficult than I think
most people might imagine.
