Silica 1.0: Heads-up Caller ID displayNew software.
It's September 8. On the 5th, I posted Silica 1.0
to VT and MacUpdate. This is the first chance I've had to blog after responding
to the initial flood of mail both from people that are thrilled to "finally" see
something like this and from those who sadly due to some combination of modem
and service aren't able to get it working. It's here for those
who want it.
During development I found out that there were (at least) 2 different caller ID protocols in common use and that Apple's internal modems, when they support caller ID at all, only seem to recognize the more recent one. Problem is, there doesn't seem to be any way to predict which form a given service provider gives to a customer. It looked for a while like it was a given that if a subscriber also had call waiting that they would have the newer CID, but a couple of respondents have disproven that theory. 1.1 Is coming along with a whole bunch of new features....
