On a Roll

Or, Keith Olbermann rocks

I never watch Countdown the Keith Olbermann on MSNBC; I just don't really have the inclination to sit down and watch an hour news program. Sure, sometimes I TiVo it and fast forward through it, but largely, I pick up snippets online.

I feel though as if I should start watching him all the time. I've liked his snarky smart guy persona ever since he and Dan Patrick made SportsCenter what it is today. But, he has suddenly turned into the conscience of the media, willingly calling out people who are lying to the American public. He has long listed the daily "World's Worst Person," but in the past week has delivered two eloquent and stinging responses to the incessant drumbeats of war belted out by this administration.

First, last week, Olbermann went off about Rumsfeld's recent speech where he goes off about fascism. He does this wonderful job of showing how Rumsfeld has it exactly wrong: we have the same government that England did as it appeased Hitler--one that knew it was right and dismissed everyone else. It is a passionate, smart, and blistering attack. It's great.

Second, on Tuesday he responded to President Bush's constant deft insinuations that dissent abets the enemy, noting that Bush and his administration is "accomplishing in part what Osama Bin Laden and others seek—a fearful American populace, easily manipulated, and willing to throw away any measure of restraint, any loyalty to our own ideals and freedoms, for the comforting illusion of safety." He ends with another classic: "Have you no sense of decency, sir."

So, kudos Keith...and maybe I'll start watching.
