Despair and Hope

or, The M's and the Dems

I watched tonight as the M's lost yet another game, late in the game, adding insult to injury, as I have to stay up into the wee hours to watch them implode. They are now ten games out, and, since this isn't 1995, the season, if it wasn't already, is largely kaput. Ah well. There were some good moments and some promise for the future. I still love them, even though Mike Hargrove needs to go. Now.

In other news, it appears that America is waking up to the fact that the Democrats might not be all that bad, with Ned Lamont beating Joe Lieberman and his Droopy Dog-ness. I have decided to do a bit on my own part, starting just about as small as one can. This evening, I am volunteering to do some computer work and data entry for the campaign of one Olivia Brady, who is running to be my representative in the Pennsylvania House. She seems like a pretty cool candidate (homegrown, down-to-earth, interesting background) who has what to me seems like a good shot at picking up a seat since the Phila. suburbs are trending more Dem, Lois Murphy has my dumb US Rep on the run, and Bob Casey has my even dumber US Senator (no, I won't even link to him) on the ropes. And, while it may seem like the state houses don't mean much, considering that the ability to gerrymander and the ability to marry Gerry and Andrew rest in their hands, means quite a lot.

So, I'll let you know how my non-phonebanking volunteering goes...and I'll let you know if the M's magically re-enter the race and my good graces.
