A Nice Day...to Huddle in the Fetal Position in the Corner of One's Room

Or, Life as I know it

Yeah, time for the periodic, "I suck because I haven't blogged in forever."

What have I been doing? I have been strangely busy.

First, the weather has sucked, culminating in today's lunacy of high 90s (feeling like, right this instant, 107). All of this renders my brain bleggy. Yes, that's a technical term.

So, as the title of this post suggests, I just want to sit and be brain-dead, and not actually think.

Second, the month of July was the final month of the two-month Summer Fellows program, of which I was the coordinator. Every day seemed to present a new set of issues, so there was much detail-checking and fire-dousing (Given Rick's last name, I have often wondered if you douse anything but a fire? Perhaps a scandal or a crisis, but I'm open to other options. It just seems like a very limited verb). It went swimmingly though, and everyone said I did a good job, so there. (At some point, there will be a job post, but not now. Not enough energy)

Third, I was gone for a bit--AC for Madonna and then Lincoln, NE for a fellowship advisors workshop. Again, not a big deal.

And, again, these are all excuses, and not very good ones.

However, since I will be out of town again quite soon, I thought I should at least poke my head out.

Some notes:

Our downstairs bathroom is very close to being completely remodeled. It lacks a towel rack (to be installed by everyone's favorite carpenter, Boris) and a good painting (to be performed by everyone's favorite novice painter, yours truly...any tips here would be most appreciated). I like it. You can be the judge when it's all done and I put up some pics.

The world is going to hell (see the title above). Over there just has become too depressing, such that I don't even bother watching anything about it. I just assume that someone will let me know when I need to get into the bunker.

Also, if you haven't read/listened to this great piece of journalism that, as far as I know, is being roundly ignored, then you should: it's a powerful view on our response on 9/11 that shows not only how confusing that day was, but also how confused our military was in trying to cover up the fact of our confusion.

Run, don't walk, to your nearest record store and get the latest from Zero 7 and the first offering from Gnarls Barkley. To say I'm obsessed with them is putting it mildly. Also, from Rick, PSB has a new album out that, according to me, is really quite good.

I think that'll do for now.

I promise that...oh screw it...I'll try to do much better, OK?
