Wee Updates

Or, the post before the big announcement

How's that for suspense? Well, it's not suspenseful for some of you, but whatever.

Just wanted to jot down a few things.

First, and this is for some of my colleagues who I ran into at the Bonjung, our Collegeville sushi place, last Friday. For some reason, I greeted them by asking if they noticed if the Drift Away Cafe was open as they walked down to dinner.

Now, for those of you who have been reading for a while--all four or five of you--the Drift Away Cafe was the heretofore unnamed cafe from a previous post. Since that post, Rick and I, in our pure evil, enjoyed the running joke of asking people if they had been to Drift Away, or saying, "you know what I really want right now? A big latte with a hot fudge sundae!", or just driving past and giggling at the empty chairs. Yes, I know that at least I am going to hell for this and about 47 trillion other reasons.

So, my friends said that they in fact hadn't noticed if DAC had been open (and that was the other joke we liked: since DAC was a coffee and ice cream place, their hours were from like 6am to 11pm) as they had driven to Bonjung (won't get into that; there were shoe issues).

Saturday, I decided to get my hair cut, so I commenced my walk down to the Acme plaza. After about a block, I decided that I just had to see if DAC was open, so I cut across to Main Street.

The sweet sign hanging from the wrought iron post was no longer there.

The sign posting the ridiculous hours...gone.

The chairs huddled together as if they were bracing themselves against the cold.

Yes, folks, the Drift Away Cafe (I CALLED IT!) is no more.

On to other things, in brief:

School is rocking; love love love the room I'm in and my students a) actually talk and b) actually have personalities. It's like they are human or something.

I have ordered iLife '06, but UPS and Apple have screwed me over. I came home expecting the package (ordered it online to get the education discount) since I had been tracking it, but only that damn UPS slip was there. And, get this, there's not even the option to sign the slip and have them leave it tomorrow: they are demanding that I sign for it in person. So many issues with this: first, I'm the customer, so shouldn't I decide what works best for me?; second, why is Apple so concerned about my security that they send it this way? Again, shouldn't I have the option to decline that shipping method?; third, what kind of assumption is it that someone will be home from 8-5? The nice woman on the phone asked if I had a neighbor who could sign for it. Well, I have neighbors and I assume they are literate, but no...why assume I have neighbors who are homebound and I actually talk to?; fourth, I asked if they could deliver it to the nearby UPS store and I could pick it up there....no. Well, what the hell good is a synergistic monolithic multinational corporation anyway? So, if they don't show up when I happen to be home tomorrow before choir, I'm going to have to shlep to West Chester (about an hour's drive) to get it. Stupid. Anyway, the point of this rant is that I cannot wait to try iWeb and get the hell away from iBlog. Oh, and I have a new name for the blog which will debut. I think Stonesthrow will still me the name for main page stuff (since it is my real-life home), but I have a new name for the blog. It's a little cheesy, but I like it quite a bit.

Today marked the second day of me doing the treadmill thing after work--fifty minutes at a fairly good clip (I have no idea what measurements they use so I don't know how far I walked).

We saw Walk the Line at the Colonial Saturday night: very good movie. I don't feel like reviewing it really. Not much plot-wise to say. As I told a friend, I think I need to kidnap Reese Witherspoon and just keep her as a pet, because she's almost as cute as the cats, but she can talk (and sing!). Serious, though, it was a very delightful movie to watch--very entertaining, and the time just flew by.

I'll have my Oscar nominations up before they are announced, don't you worry

Go Hawks! Insane really...the town is just beside itself.

I am probably going to establish a sole proprietorship since I'm going to do some work for erin and my dad's wine business, and am looking to get some ideas for names. This name will ideally be something vague which could encompass the multiple businesses Rick and I plan to have down the road. So, please leave me ideas in the comments, or comment on these: Ideation; The Jasmine Group; Varietal Consulting; Belmond Consulting, or something else.

Finally, I will have that aforementioned announcement Saturday probably. Ooooo, suspense!
