Wedding Crashers
A fun throwaway movie that could have used a more
forceful editor.
Not that I would have cleared my calendar for
Wedding
Crashers, but I had been interested in
seeing it because I like Owen and Vince.
Now then, the movie overall is pretty good. The humor at times is clever, largely owing to the deadpan delivery of Wilson and Vaughn (which sort of sounds like a good name for a comedy duo, huh?). They are funny throughout, and though I consider this something of a mainstream, big studio picture (even though apparently I'm wrong), the jokes are sometimes offbeat and good.
However, as Rick stipulates, a good comedy should be 90 minutes. Period. And this drags; I don't think it dragged as much as Rick did, but it is a bit flabby, particularly in the second half when it sort of hits a flat patch as we navigate the plot points. Also, it gets a bit serious, frankly, which it really didn't need to do.
So, overall, a good summer comedy, but it needed to remember it was a comedy and go lighter on the heavy and shorter on the length.
