Happy Humpday: The Random Ten
Something really for everyone, especially if you
were sentient during the 80s and 90s.
And away we
go:
1) "Beautiful Child," Rufus
Wainwright, Want
One (5 stars): "When I am older than these
small, god damn hills." That's the opening line. Really. Seriously. I mean,
Jesus. How good is that?
2) "The Wanting
Kind," Eddi Reader, Simple
Soul (4 stars): A bit earnest than I usually
like, but really Eddi can do no wrong in my
book.
3) "Satellite," Alison Moyet,
Essex (3
stars): Heart-wrenching chorus belted out: "Want to get up and wash the rest of
you away."
4) "Sunshine For Now," Super
Deluxe,
Famous (3
stars): Good little Seattle rock band; I have no idea if they are still in
existence. They have some very good songs on this CD though, so if you see it
used, pick it up.
5) "The Lazarus Heart,"
Sting, Nothing Like the
Sun (3 stars): Really good opening song to a CD;
great flute riff, or whatever it is, on this song. Interesting rhythms
too.
6) "Shadows," Red House Painters,
Ocean
Beach (3 stars): RHP/Mark Kozelek is a sort of
quiet, almost maudlin outfit that has some really good songs. I think
Ocean
Beach is probably the most accessible of their
CDs actually. He's one whose voice you either love or
hate.
7) "Englishman in New York," Sting,
Nothing Like the
Sun (2 stars): OK, iTunes not exactly jammin' on
the randomness.
8) "It's A Miracle",
Culture Club, At Worst...The
Best (3 stars): Do I really need to say
anything?
9) "Ironic," Alanis Morissette,
Jagged Little
Pill (2 stars): See
#8
10) "Alive," Pearl Jam,
Ten (3
stars): See #9
