Happy Humpday: The Random Ten

Special Phlegm Edition!

(Rick emailed me this afternoon, asking me if I needed Vicks Vap-o-rub, and for some reason that struck me as funny. Unfortunately, it also meant an almost tragic display on my display. All is well though. And on that note...)

"Love 2 The 9's"--Prince--O(+>: An underwhelming song on an otherwise good album.
"Divorce Song"--Liz Phair--Exile in Guyville: Great song on a great album. Contains the fantabulous lyric: "And the license said that you had to stick around until I was dead. But if you're tired of looking at my face, I guess I already am." (and that was from memory, so you know I love this song)
"Catching the Butterfly"--The Verve--Urban Hymns: Another example of a guy who should have stuck with his band. This album is so good, and then Richard Ashcroft had to go and leave and be not as good on his own. This song gets 3 *s. Not amazing, but still good.
"Addicted"--Neil Finn--Try Whistling This: I have this tendency to not know Neil's song by their titles. Perhaps it's because they often don't form the chorus or something. I had no idea what this song was when I saw it. It's the last song and features this great old piano as well as this great ending that just fades out with Neil singing in a high register "You've Come...So Far." Good stuff as usual.
"Crescendolls"--Daft Punk--Discovery: Great title. Decent Song. Daft Punk is very hit or miss for me.
"If Eye Was the Man in Ur Life"--Prince--Musicology: I honestly have no idea what this song is.
"Heroes"--David Bowie--Greatest Hits: you know what's sad? I think I actually like the bit of this in the medley from Moulin Rouge better than this. I am such a cheeseball.
"Same Old Song"--Basement Jaxx--Remedy: Not a great effort from them. Sort of filler really, though it can be kind of interesting. I gave it 2 *s and am a little torn about that. Could be 3, but it is a bit too repetitive.
"Short Side of Nothing"--Los Lobos--Kiko: This is a great album; I bought it for the title track, but this song is also good.
"Now I Know"--Cowboy Junkies--Lay It Down: An odd song, because it's just incredibly sad (it opens with "Now I know what it means to be broken") and very short. Seems just tacked on. By the way, they're coming to the Colonial Theatre in Phoenixville in a couple weeks. Did we get tickets? Nah...they won't sell out. Um, they did. Damn!
