Pre-Globe Oscar Picks

Inspired by The Scoop (see left)

So, Lauren has her Oscar picks out, so I may as well do the same. Sure, I haven't seen hardly any of these movies, but that doesn't mean I don't have an opinion.

I will probably come out with a revised list after the Globes, but here's what I'm thinking at this point.

Actor: Ralph Fiennes, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Heath Ledger, Joaquin Phoenix, David Straitharn
• Ralph and David beat out Terrence Howard and Viggo for me because I think the former have more actor cred. Really though it's moot, because Heath's got it in the bag, unless PSH or JP sneak up on him.

Actress: Dame Judi, Felicity Huffman, Reese Witherspoon
• Those are the only three I'm pretty sure of. Like Lauren, I would love Keira to get a nod, and there is indeed a chance. However, there are just a panoply of ladies, and SAG screwed some things up by nominating the Geisha. Again, though, I don't think it matters because Reese may have this one locked up. No one saw Judi's movie, and Felicity's a TV actress, even though she is gender-bending. +, reviews for the film were mixed.

Film: Brokeback, Capote, Crash, Munich, Walk the Line
• I think Crash is coming back into the picture, as is Capote, which is being buoyed by good PSH buzz. I think Brokeback is in something of a lull, but will re-ignite and win.

The only movies I've mentioned above that I've actually seen are Brokeback and Crash. Sad really. I do want to see all the ones I picked for film. Maybe by Oscar time I will.

By the way, I would love it if Scarlett got nominated for Match Point; I think Woody will get a screenplay nod.
