Happy Humpday: The Random Ten

OK, so it's a little late; there was a stack of essays being really mean by being ungraded.

1. "Girls and Boys," Prince and the Revolution, Parade: first, I really think this is one of Prince's best albums--"Kiss," "Mountains," "Anotherloverholeinyohead," "Sometimes It Snows in April"--and this song is great. Sample lyric: "She had the cutest ass he'd ever seen / He did too; they were meant to be."
2. "Delicate," Terence Trent D'Arby, Symphony or Damn: great album title. I love this duet--it's with Des'ree of "You Gotta Be" "fame."
3. "Heart Failed (In the Back of a Taxi)," Saint Etienne, Sound of Water: another good song (iTunes is on!). a middling album from the best British band of all time (oh the mail i'll get), but this song is great--moody and funky a bit. What's up though with the parenthetical statements in song titles? Make a decision (or not)!
4. "Anytime," Neil Finn, One Nil: good song, good album, greatest New Zealander ever.
5. "Song for Kelly Huckaby," Death Cab for Cutie, Forbidden Love: oh before DCfC was all over the place. Driving guitars and the like...it reminds me of another band, but I can't place it. early Posies?
6. "Skin," Madonna, Ray of Light: You know, the more that new song plays, the more I like it. This song isn't bad either.
7. "Religious," Musiq, Juslisen: mmmmm, good funk. yaknow, the whole phillysoundthang. No, seriously, this is good stuff. The song "halfcrazy" is almost perfect.
8. "Siren," Eddi Reader, Eddi Reader: not really Eddi at her best (which can be breathtaking), but any song whose chorus repeats "Ligea, Parthenope, Leucosia" can't be all bad.
9. "We Close Our Eyes," Pomona College Women's Blue & White, The Inarticulate Collection: Shout out to Red! No, not Go West (which I actually prefer), but Oingo Boingo.
10. "Erica America," Saint Etienne, Good Humor: 5 stars for this song--just fun sort of dance music, as evidenced by the chorus, "Erica, let's go out tonight, stay out til the morning light" with "sha la la" in the background. Another line? "I wish I hadn't got a permanent wave." Haven't we all been there?
