Happy Humpday: The Random Ten

What comes up on iTunes Party Shuffle and what I rate them

This idea comes from Feministe, who I'm sure got it from someone else. I like it though, so here goes.

1) Out of Control, The Chemical Brothers, Surrender (4 stars): featuring the lead singer from New Order, it's a good song from them; I especially like the ending that gets a bit more psychedelic...or at least a little bit.

2) "Save My Life," Pink, Try This (2 stars): One of her calmer tunes, with a slightly addictive chorus hook. Got this off Rick.

3) "Pretty Good Year," Tori Amos, Under the Pink (4 stars): I think this opens this CD, and is a great opening song, sort of like "Chopsticks" by Liz Phair that opens Whitechocolatespaceegg: quiet, a bit sad, a bit eerie. I also like it because it talks about Greg writing letters and burning his CDs, which are two things I actually do (with the contemporary meaning of burning, not probably what she meant).

4) "He's on the Phone," Saint Etienne, Tiger Bay (4 stars): So good. A little disco song, but with an amazing chorus. Also, the description "Academia Girl" reminds me of about 47,000 people.

5) "Lay It Down," Cowboy Junkies, Lay It Down (5 stars): One of the best title tracks ever, or at least in my collection. So hauntingly beautiful, eerie: "he sold most of what he cherished; the rest, he let them steal / shot his dog out in an open field; the rest, he let them steal"

6) "Spin the Black Circle," Pearl Jam, Vitalogy (3 stars): the last PJ CD i bought; rocking song

7) "Suitcases," Super Deluxe, Famous (3 stars): I like this band, but only have this CD; another great chorus that makes up for fairly ordinary verses.

8) "Busy Child," The Crystal Method, MTV's Amp (3 stars): Yes, I have my greatest hits moments, and this was one of them; it's actually a good collection though. Great hook to this song.

9) "Margerine Melodie," Stereolab, Margerine Eclipse (3 stars): Bought this CD because everyone told me how great they were; I am underwhelmed, as the songs all sound the same to me, for the most part. This is one of the less grating ones I guess, since I gave it 3 stars.

10) "Broken Head I," South, From Here On In (1 star): minute-long instrumental from a CD that was really cheap at Tower one day. They're OK.
