Le Mas PerrierGeorges (formerly Le Mas Perrier), 503 W.
Lancaster Ave., Wayne, PA, (610) 964-2588
I went here for my birthday dinner, and it didn't
disappoint. If you don't know about Le
Mas, it's the suburban enclave for Georges Perrier, famed chef of
Philadelphia's Le Bec-Fin. I haven't been to LBF, but Le Mas
was a more informal place than I was expecting, which wasn't a bad thing. Our
waitress (who was incredible...service was impeccable) told us that the
restaurant was undergoing an image makeover, including a name change, to counter
the assumption that this place was as high-falutin' as LBF. That being said, the
food was really great and the prices were pretty darn reasonable, including
great bottles of wine for $40 and
under.
The appetizers were enough to make me salivate--so much so that I really wanted just a tasting menu of those. I ended up choosing a sushi-like Yellowfin tuna dish with wasabi caviar and a pineapple "jus"...interesting and tasty, and I'm not one to go for sushi (I'm a roll man...because I'm a wimp). For an entree, I had the Horseradish crusted salmon, which was served on a potato pancake with prosciutto and parmesan. I highly recommend this particular dish, and at $20 it's a good deal. Rick had the shrimp garganelli, which really was more of a shrimp dish than a pasta dish, which was what he was expecting, so he was a little disappointed. While the desserts sounded good, they certainly weren't very creative, so we passed on that. So, while it didn't bowl me over, Le Mas provided a pretty nice meal, and I was quite pleased with it. I am intrigued by their Sunday brunch and the BYOB dinners the same day; perhaps we'll try it again if we feel like a more upscale Sunday. Posted: Tue - October 12, 2004 at 05:16 PM | |
