JMU Tournament Prep
As you may already know, or will soon come to
find out, I like to emphasize three areas to focus on at a tournament. This
weekend at the JMU tournament is no different. I know many of you are excited
about our number one seed, as well as the opportunity to play outside for the
first time this year. I am too, but to often teams coming into the tournament
with a one seed, focus on winning a tournament. This vague goal is often
counter productive. Let's focus on how we are going to play. Defensively our
focus will be active intense marks. Offensively our focus will be movement.
For receivers this means active cutting to the dangerous areas in the outside
lanes of the field. For handlers this means following your throws, and moving
the disc quickly. Our team goal is a vocal sideline, encouraging people on
defense and giving "up" calls.
It's out
first tournament of the year, and there will be many mistakes made. There will
be errant throws and missed opportunities. All that I ask is that you learn
from these mistakes, and figure out how to limit them in the future. As always,
this tournament will be a success if we come out of it a better team than we
started it. The only wins and losses that matter are in the series. Take this
weekend's tournament as an opportunity to learn, improve your play, and improve
the teams play.
Also remember I would
like to run toyota and mazda as stop disc
plays.
Get your work done, so that you
can focus on ultimate this weekend.
