shots each Fight club Aborted double play stop disc play
scrimmage.
...The final scrimmage was quite good, with some of the younger guys cutting deep aggressively, and the starters moving the disc to exploit poaching. Posted at 05:17 PM Read More Tue - March 22, 2005Practice 3/22/04The pull play defense we talked about was the
force stack defense, and the poach in the lane for one throw.

and play well. We had 12 or so at practice, not including the the RUTV people
there to record us. After a some throwing and a thorough warmup, the we did the
triangle drill.... So after my exhortations to work harder, we did the comeback
drill, two sets of two times through.... Throughout the drill people improved
their timing, and throwers did a better job of moving the disc quickly. The
next drill was plinko, followed by some 3 on 3, make it take it.... After
practice Steve and I answer some questions in front of the camera.
Posted at 10:44 PM Read More Tue - November 9, 2004Practice 11/9/04As the temperature dropped below freezing, the 13
or some guys who braved the cold had one of the most fun practices of the
year.... The first drill was the Triangle Drill which was followed by the some
M-Drill SAQ work.... We finished up with some 3 on 3 make it take, in which the
team of Chris, Tim, and Tim won 4 in a a row to lay claim to the title:
Champions of the Universe.
Posted at 10:21 PM Read More Tue - November 2, 2004Practice 11/2/04After warming up with the triangle drill, we
split up and worked on endzone offense (pg.... We still need to improve on cuts
form the back of the stack in endzone offense. Running was done for failed end
zone attempts, since it's no good to turn it at the endzone.... Hopefully that
drill help you get a better feel for when you have an advantage on offense, and
on defense what you need to do to stop an in cut.... One group did the most
dangerous man drill, which simulates what a receiver should do after he dumps
the disc.... We are not getting enough cuts from the back of the stack. Part
of this is because people want to know which side to cut on before they cut....
The best cuts are the ones set of for the next thrower, not the guy who current
has the disc. Get out of the habit of cutting for the current thrower, and get
into the habit of making good hard cuts when it is your turn to.
Posted at 09:29 AM Read More Thu - October 21, 2004Practice 10/21/04We worked on endzone offense (pg. 44) and the
pull play (pg. 29)a little bit before the rain caused the fields to get closed.
Some of the drills we did: comeback drill, out and in drill, and the butterfly
drill.
Posted at 06:47 PM Read More Fri - October 15, 2004Practice 10/14/04The three things we focused on were receiver cuts
(pg.... 22-23), and force forehand (pg.... Some of the things we did were the
Butterfly cut drill, one on one defense drill, dump drill, and fight
club.
Posted at 03:22 PM Read More Tue - October 12, 2004Practice 10/12/04We started off the practice by working on the
dishy pass (pg.... We did the Dishy drill and the Dishy flow drill.... It a
regular back hand, throw flat to the space to the side of you and slightly
behind you. The earlier you throw the dishy, the easier it is to
complete.
...This focus on making out and in cuts, and making an out cut, after you are looked off on an in cut (pg.... The key is for the cuts is moving at full speed, and using good footwork to make a sharp change of direction. In cuts are straight back at the thrower, and out cuts are to the back corner of the endzone. ...After that, on Justin's urging, the team was introduced to fight club. If I remember correctly, Chris taught Dan why it's called fight club. Finished off with the thrower maker drill. Posted at 08:42 AM Read More Thu - October 7, 2004Practice 10/7/04Today's practice we warmed up with the triangle
drill, and then did a modified out and in drill. After that we talked about
zone offense and worked on zone offense a little bit.
Posted at 10:51 PM Read More Tue - October 5, 2004Practice 10/5/04Kudos for all of you who endured the chilly
evening, I though today's practice was quite productive. The first part of the
practice focused on the two of the receiver cuts: 'out and in' and butterfly.
The important thing to remember is that after you make an in cut, you shouldn't
fade into the stack. You should change directions and cut deep to the opposite
site back corner, turning your out and in cut into a butterfly cut.

and the force middle defense. The endzone offense can be found on pages 44-47
of the playbook.... He said that in doing the Go To drill, you should be
pushing you ability to catch the disc, as you accelerate to and lunge for it.
Make sure you accelerate the last three steps into the catch.... It's your
opportunity to push beyond your comfort level, and show throwers that you are a
receiver that can be trusted to go and get the disc when it is in the
air.
Posted at 01:19 PM Read More Tue - September 21, 2004Practice 9/21/04Tonight's practice we tried some advanced skills:
cutting from motion and timing cuts.... At the end of the scrimmage, in the
game to 3, all but one of the goal were score on well executed pull plays....
Hopefully, the playbooks will get printed out soon (Raj, I'm calling you out.),
and you all will be able to see the big picture for the offense. The PDF of the
playbook is available on this site, in one of the earliest posts.
Posted at 10:14 AM Read More Thu - September 16, 2004Practice 9/16/04The basic concept of the straight up defense is
this: The marker prevents the thrower from throwing good huck. Any huck that is
thrown against the straight up mark must be blady or floaty.... The straight up
defense is a team defense, which means each player either down field or marking
must do his job for the defense to be
successful.
Specifically we worked on three skills this evening: fronting, setting the mark, and defending hucks. When you are down field you want to front you player, taking away the in cut to the wide side of the field with your body positioning.... One, the player you are defender may make a horizontal cut to the strong side of the field.... If the pass is completed, it will be for a minimal gain, and you must set the mark.... Take the right pursuit angle, seal off the up the line throw, and then close into the man you are marking. Two, the man you are defending my cut deep, assume he is cutting in, until you hear an up call, then it's time to sprint, find the disc, and defend it. The pass will either be uncatchable because it is blading, or it will be floating so you will have time to catch up to it. ...Within 15 yards of the endzone, you should switch to a force middle defense, in which you are still fronting.
