Practice 10/12/04

With midterms and Fall's brisk evening working against us, we only started practice with 15 players. We started off the practice by working on the dishy pass (pg. 8). We did the Dishy drill and the Dishy flow drill. The dishy pass it's self can be tricky to master. I remember drawing the ire of a teammate my rookie year by misthrowing dishy. First of all, it's not a high release. It a regular back hand, throw flat to the space to the side of you and slightly behind you. The earlier you throw the dishy, the easier it is to complete.

After the dishies, we did the Butterfly cutting drill. This focus on making out and in cuts, and making an out cut, after you are looked off on an in cut (pg. 9-10). The key is for the cuts is moving at full speed, and using good footwork to make a sharp change of direction. In cuts are straight back at the thrower, and out cuts are to the back corner of the endzone.

After a quick review of the our endzone offense (pg. 44-46), we played a double score game. After that, on Justin's urging, the team was introduced to fight club. If I remember correctly, Chris taught Dan why it's called fight club. Finished off with the thrower maker drill.

Big props to Tim, Tim, and Steve for their 1-2-3 finish in fight club. Especially big props to Steve who cast sickness aside to bring it at practice.
