Practice 9/23/04
This practice we introduced our endzone offense
and the force middle defense. The endzone offense can be found on pages 44-47
of the playbook. Force middle is covered on page 54. When we play straight up
defense, when the offense get with 15 yards of the endzone, we change the force
to middle. This is because the straight up mark is ineffective close to the
endzone. So whenever force straight up is called on line, it means straight up,
until they get close to the endzone, then change the force to
middle.
One particularly sage piece
advice came from Don Corson. He said that in doing the Go To drill, you should
be pushing you ability to catch the disc, as you accelerate to and lunge for it.
Make sure you accelerate the last three steps into the catch. If you are
pushing your limits, drops are acceptable in that drill. It's your opportunity
to push beyond your comfort level, and show throwers that you are a receiver
that can be trusted to go and get the disc when it is in the
air.
