Format: 200 point Constructed Triad (Standard, Quickstrike, Cave of Pain)
Number of players: 10
Factions: 2x CG, 3x LE, 5x CE

Though we didn't have as many players as I had hoped, everybody had a lot of fun. Prizes were plentiful, so everybody walked away with at least one booster, plus other swag.

The final match went very quickly. Kevin made a mistake while setting up his warband on his assembly tile, which allowed Ray to drop a fireball on it in the first phase. Ray cleaned up after that to win the tournament ... with a CG warband! Ray beat me badly on the Friday night prior to the tournament with the same warband. It has some surprisingly good synergies that aren't apparent on paper.

Sydney's warband was a very cool drow/underdark concept warband. Every creature she used was drow/underdark related except for the dire wolf.

Tamiz tested out a four-creature commanderless warband. Though it had some individually powerful creatures, it just wasn't as dominant as he hoped it would be.

Craig learned the hard way about Lord Soth's abyssal blast. A couple rounds in, Ryan dropped it on all six of Craig's bugbears, Urthok, and a couple goblins. Ouch!

Going into the fourth round of the tournament, almost every player still had a shot at the finals. After three rounds, we knew that one player with only two wins would make it to the finals.

Matchplay is in the San Antonio shopping center, near the back entrance of Sears, between Trader Joe's and San Antonio Hobby Shop. There are two pathways that lead past shops between Trader Joe's and San Antonio Hobby Shop; go along the leftmost path, underneath the overhang that has a (not well-lit) Sears sign. When you reach the Sears entrance, look to your right and you'll see Matchplay. (Matchplay is on the opposite side of the path from a tanning salon and hairstylist place.)

To make it easier, the following web page contains a map of San Antonio Shopping Center. Matchplay is #27 on the map, adjacent to Sears:

Matchplay even has their own web site, but their map is a bit out of date. The Super Crown on their map is now the Trader Joe's, and the two other stores (Star Rockets and Philip Shoes) no longer exist. Other than that, it's a pretty good map:

Beware: Matchplay is somewhat difficult to find. If you have a hard time finding it, don't give up! Don't count on being able to see it from your car as you drive around the parking lot. Just park near Trader Joe's and San Antonio Hobby Shop and walk around the group of shops between them to find Matchplay. If you still can't find it, call their phone number (above) and see if they can guide you.
