D&D Minis 100 pt. Constructed Assault @ Game Kastle on Jan 15, 2005

Back to Guy's Page

Format: 100 point Constructed Assault
Number of players: 7
Factions: 1x LG, 1x CG, 5x CE

A handful of our regulars couldn't make the tournament, so we only had seven players. On the bright side, we had one totally new player, plus a few other tournament veterans that hadn't been at one of my sanctioned events before. We had plenty of elbow room at the tables. Alessio and Zachary were kind enough to play against me in unsanctioned matches during their byes.

Prizes were pretty sweet. Everybody got a promo mini from my stock of promo minis, plus a Hobgoblin Sergeant promo and a Lost Temple map from the July 2004 retailer/league kit. The prize pool contained one sealed Aberrations booster, the contents of two opened Aberrations boosters and one opened Archfiends boosters, as well as the rest of the July 2004 retailer/league kit. Everybody walked away with lots of swag!

I'm not a big fan of running single-elimination finals after the swiss rounds for minor events; it just takes too long. (Single-elimination finals are fine for the Championships and Qualifiers, though.) We therefore ran just three swiss rounds to determine the winner. All 9 matches of the event finished before time expired. (One was really close to having time called, though; Scott & Zachary literally finished a split-second before I called time.)

Tim won the tournament with a 100 point version of a 200 point warband that he's used in previous events. His warband had good activation control & synergy, and he caught some luck when he needed it; nobody wins a tournament without a bit of timely good luck. Tim has made it as high as 2nd-place before, but this was his first 1st-place at a tournament. Congratulations, Tim!

Unbeknownst to one another, Scott and Zachary (who had never played one another) brought identical warbands, with only slightly different terrain selections. They played each other in the ultimate mirror match! (That was the match that ended just before I called time.)

When: Saturday, January 15, 2005 from 12 pm until approximately 5 pm.

Where: Game Kastle in Santa Clara, CA. See below for address & directions.

Cost: $5

Format: 100 point Constructed Assault.

Rounds: Approximately three to five swiss rounds, depending on the number of players. All rounds have a 60 minute time limit.

Prizes: Most of the entry fees will go toward prizes, which will all be put into a prize pool. The pool will contain at least one prize per player. The bulk of the prize pool will be brand new single minis from one or more boosters bought with the entry fees, and/or the contents of one or more league kits. Depending on the number of players, the prize pool may also include one or more sealed boosters. The first place player gets to choose first from the prize pool, the second place player chooses second, and so on down to the last place player. Then prize selection begins again, this time starting with the last place player and moving to the first place player. (This means the last place player gets two selections in a row.) Continue this back and forth selection process until all prizes are gone.

I still have a bunch of promo minis left (Crucians, Drow Rogues, etc.). Every player that wants a promo mini can have one.

Contact/Organizer/Judge: Guy Fullerton (guyf@apple.com). Feel free to contact me with any questions.
