Sealed warband construction requires players to balance strategy against luck of the draw to overcome their opponents. Constructing effective warbands from sealed boosters is always a challenge, but Giants of Legend presents special obstacles for aspiring champions. With the introduction of huge miniatures and high cost creatures, alternate sealed constructions rules were required.
Unless otherwise specified, use the Out of the Box scenario described on page 27 of the Dungeons & Dragons Miniatures rulebook or page 107 of the Miniatures Handbook.
Warbands: Each player opens two sealed Giants of Legend Booster Packs. Each player chooses to build either a 350-point warband or a 450-point warband, ignoring faction restrictions. Warband size is limited to twelve creatures.
"Commander 0" Rule: If a player does not have a commander in his or her chosen warband, he or she can choose to make the lowest-cost, non-Difficult creature in his or her warband a commander with a Commander rating of 0. The creature's point cost increases by 5. The player must clearly mark and announce to opponents which creature is the commander before the start of a skirmish. If several non-Difficult creatures are tied for the lowest cost, the player chooses which one to make the commander, if any. Such "Commander 0" creatures have no Commander Effects.
Special Abilities: If a player gets multiple copies of a Unique creature, ignore the restriction against having more than one in a given warband.
Lich Necromancer's Commander Effect: The Commander Effect functions only if the player has an eligible Undead creature in his or her Booster Packs that is not already in that player's warband. It can function a number of times per skirmish up to the number of eligible Undead creatures.
Scout: Each creature with the Scout ability sets up inside any area of difficult terrain (there are three such areas on the map) that does not already have a creature on it. All squares of the creature's spsace must be within the designated area.
Wandering Monster: Each creature with the Wandering Monsters ability sets up inside a randomly determined area of difficult terrain (there are three such areas on the map). All squares of the creature's space must be within the designated area.
Victory: Either player wins by eliminating all enemy creatures. When a 350-point warband plays against a 450-point warband, the player with the 350-point warband can also win by reducing the 450-point warband to one creature.
If time runs out, finish the current round and award victory to the player who has eliminated the most points of enemy creatures.
Terrain: This format uses no terrain tiles; instead, players use The Lost Temple map. Each warband sets up in a starting area, as shown on the map, instead of on an assembly tile. If you do not have The Lost Temple map then use the standard terrain and placement rules exactly as detailed, except that all gaps between walls must be at least three squares wide.
