Microsoft.com has an excellent Windows 2003 "server" but they are up on LinuxWhen I read this
news I just noted on my Ical to check in a month if Microsoft www
server was still running on Linux...guess what....
, Web Server and Hosting History for www.microsoft.com
Just checked on Netcraft.com OS Server Last changed IP address Netblock Owner Linux Microsoft-IIS/6.0 15-Sep-2003 63.211.66.108 Level 3 Communications, Inc. Netcraft clarified Still, it is very amusing to see Microsoft listing linux as a public enemy and is using it to keep www.microsoft.com up and running. Oh well.. I don't get how can someone comment positively on this but micro$ fans are all around as we can see on some comments on OSnews So I hope the next time you see a Microsoft "server" 2003 ad you take a second to think about this. M$ should give up the server business. Windows was not build to be an enterprise operating system nor to have access control permission for their filesystem. The only real reason to run a server on Windows is ...not knowing the job as a real IT specialist. Being a windows administrator is a drag and drop deal..face it. With this am not saying that SSH or die but if you don't know the job...you cannot handle it. Obviously Windows "Server" 2003 (well server is a strong word..) doesn't know the job and it is a perfect match for an admin who doesn't know the job either. Is like calling yourself a programmer after being able to paste and re use asp and virtual ba$ic...man....are these people for real ? That is not programming last time I checked. Oh before you start jumping to the conclusion that this is just Akamai using Linux and not microsoft...can you tell me why, being m$ server 2003 sooo great, hotmail first 10 servers are running on FreeBSD ? see it here.. my take: move to mac for your desktop needs, wipe out immediately windows from your pc. Burn your hard disk to be sure that you wipe it out. Keep your good old pc as a memory and run Slackware Linux on it and in this way you will learn how a server works. (if you want to trick, run RedHat but then don't blame me if you still have no clue on how to install a package if is not an rpm) Hugs to all! gurugeek ps: I am not a slackware guru, an advanced programmer nor a linux geek and no I won't fix your computer.
