- 2% of patients

Aetiology

- remnant of vitello-intesinal duct
- 2" long, 2 feet from ileocaecal junction
- occurs on antimesenteric border of terminal ileum

Presentation
- incidental finding at laparotomy
- may present with symptoms of acute appendicitis
- may present with rectal bleeding (ectopic gastric mucosa)
- rarely presents with umbilical discharge (fistula), intestinal obstruction, small bowel volvulus or intusussception
Investigations
Technetium scan for GI bleeding may show gastric mucosa in a Meckel's

- excision of diverticulum (if symptomatic)
