Water & Colour

SYNOPSIS

Water & Colour is a 20 minute documentary that investigates the work of the watercolourist and master Luis Guzmán Molina, submits it to a profound critique of the experts and permits the viewer to become witness to the technical mastery and artistic sensibility of this creator in his maximum splendor: painting a watercolour thats takes us by the hand, and by the soul, throughout the duration of the documentary.

Water & Colour was taped in digital video, an instrument that facilitated the capture of the movements of the hand of Luis, and which compelled us to close a cycle: the most ancient picturial technique know to humanity, water colour, captured forever in a binary synthesis…

The montaje introduces us to a new era, a new audiovisual style, where pure information and aesthetic contemplation are joined in multi-media style scenes and sequences. It is a documentary aesthetically classic, yet influenced by the cyber age. This style permits the documentary’s presentation within the context of art installation; simultaneous projection on four walls, viewed amongst paintings, scuplture and conversation. Water & Colour is an event which leads to reflection, and to participation in an act of faith in ourselves, and in our own culture.

Luis Guzmán Molina is a bastion in the world of watercolor. Yet beyond that, he is a natural and diverse creator. His fields encompass research in the traditional arts and in folklore, sculpture, ceramics, oil, muralism and teaching, to date. Most importantly, each of his creations depicts humanity, sensitivity and modesty.

‘… watercolour as a technique, is just water and colour, apparently, it is simple, simple, spontaneous and transparent, nevertheless, when one manages to know it, this apparently simple character becomes complex and its absolute dominance is never achieved.

(Luis Guzmán Molina)

The testimonies and critiques of tose who have known him from the beginning, deliver an analysis and reflective aesthetic framework that enrich the documentary, revealing a flesh and blood creator, passionate and nostalgic, a supreme defender of watercolor, in spite of the accomplice silence of those who believe themselves to be the owners of national culture. Luis continúes teaching, investigating, painting and living from the recognition and admiration of those who do not necessarily live in Chile.

The presence of Gonzalo Rojas, of Alejandro Witker, of Fernando Morales and of Antonio Fernández give to the documentary the aesthetic level which the watercolour of Luis demands.

This documentary was produced by GRYPHON MEDIA PRODUCTIONS, known in Chile as GRYPHON productions.
