ASCII Import/Export

ASCII Import and Export are available only to registered users and allow importing ASCII tablature found on usenet newsgroups and web sites. http://www.olga.net is a large online resource for guitar tablature.

Importing

ASCII import will import all fret number values and most fret effects including bends, slides, vibrato, hammer-ons, pull-offs and more. Importing does not attempt to import lyrics or chord text, nor does it attempt to import timing information. ASCII import is a good way to get all of the fret numbers and many of the actions imported, then all that needs to be done is to add lyrics and chord text and set the timing information. To see what GuitarTab expects to import, try exporting a song! If you are having trouble importing a song, try and trim down the text file to just the strings and frets with a few newline between each set of bars. This will stop the lyrics and any other text from interfering with the importing. The ASCII tablature FAQ at http://www.olga.net is what I tried to model the ASCII Import and export after. This web site is also has a great library of ASCII tablatures that are available for importing.

Exporting

Exporting ASCII does not export timing information, it is primarily for sending ASCII tabs to your friends or posting them to the internet in a friendly format. To see examples of what ASCII tablature may look like, take a look in the "ASCII Export Examples" folder in your GuitarTab application directory.
