On the EI workshops I run with my associate, Waqar Siraj,
we use an exercise called "Best Boss, Worst Boss" where
people work in groups to define the characteristics of
their best and worst bosses and the impact that these
bosses had on them. Every single time they come up with
lists of characteristics and impacts that have next to
nothing to do with IQ or technical skill. The 'stuff' that
they list is for the most part, what makes up Emotional
Intelligence.
The most comprehensive source of information on EI/EQ by
far is the EI Consortium. You can find out
about the ECI360/ECSI tool I use here.
My particular interest is in the science behind brain
function, how our primitive brain can over-ride our higher
cognitive functions and what we can do to control this.
I'll be posting a more significant article on this in the
near future.
