You wonder whyfolks like me speak out about religious
hypocrisy. People often tell me to just shut up and sit down because we live in
a "nation under God". Well, I have read the bible and I know what Jesus tries to
teach the world and I don't see it in the actions and views of our government
and religious
leaders.
![]() It is not that I think all religious people are
evil. I do not generalize about groups of people (though many generalize my
statements). In fact, I have a lot of respect for the morals and values that are
taught in the holy scriptures. If people really lived their lives like Jesus
asks, the world would be so much better. You ask why I feel the need to
criticize? Well, I am an American citizen. I love this country, I love what our
constitution stands for. I have dreams and goals and, yes, even values.
I feel ridiculed and discounted in this country simply because I do not hold the same god beliefs of our leaders, and I shouldn't be. My president says I should have the freedom to worship or not. But does he believe it? He says he would not ever say I am less patriotic than a religious person, because he doesn't have to . . it just is. "I think people attack me because they are fearful that I will then say that you're not equally as patriotic if you're not a religious person," Mr. Bush said. "I've never said that. I've never acted like that. I think that's just the way it is." link to the full article I guess he's not too much different from his father who stated "I don't know that Atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God." What am I supposed to think about our Majority leader, Tom Delay, who gets up at a prayer breakfast where people are giving tributes to the victims of the tsunami, and he recites bible passages about floods overtaking those who do not heed the word of god? link to the text link to the mp3 audio What am I supposed to think about Jerry Falwell going on CNN and saying "blow them all away, in the name of the Lord" ? link to the video clip I'll tell you what I think. I think these people are full of bull. Hypocrisy at its finest. You remember the definition of hypocrisy? The practice of professing beliefs, feelings, or virtues that one does not hold or possess; falseness. What other conclusion can I come to? I feel a need to stand up and decry hypocrisy for what it is. Thank god for the first amendment. Home Posted:
