As the stomach turnsI have not met Terri Schiavo, nor Michael, nor
Terri's parents. I am not qualified to make the decision of persistant
vegetative state. Nor can anyone do so from a few videos. This is politics
through and through and everyone should leave this poor family alone. Experts
from the husband's team and the parent's team have all agreed Terri is in a
persistent vegetative state. Terri has expressed her wishes not to live like
this to her husband, her uncle and to friends. That is what the judge ruled on.
Are all these people who love Terri really lying murderers? Please. We don't
belong in the middle of this.
find it ironic that Michael Shiavo's voice is
being trounced upon by conservatives simply because they can win political
clout.
George Bush signed a law about such situations in Texas. In it, it clearly prioritizes who should make these decisions in the absence of a written statement by the injured person. Here's the order, directly from the Texas law. Notice the spouse is listed first: If the patient does not have a legal guardian or an agent under a medical power of attorney, the attending physician and one person, if available, from one of the following categories, in the following priority, may make a treatment decision that may include a decision to withhold or withdraw life-sustaining treatment: (1) the patient's spouse; (2) the patient's reasonably available adult children; (3) the patient's parents; or (4) the patient's nearest living relative. This law also makes it clear that care facilities (hospitals, etc) can stop life-sustaining treatment from patients against their family's wishes with a 10 day period for them to find another care facility. It also says that this decision can be based, in part, on the patient's ability to pay. Hypocrisy at it's finest. I'm so happy George woke up from his peaceful slumber to wander out into the hall to sign this bill half asleep. Wade through the entire text if you want: http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/statutes/docs/HS/content/htm/hs.002.00.000166.00.htm I am sick of these politics and the conservative republicans and right wing pro-life extremists are really making me angry. Terry Randal - remember him? He's the guy who is the former head of "operation rescue". Why is he even talking on the news about this case? He came out to say that the Judge in this case ruled because he wants to murder Terri. Here is his exact quote: Why would judge Greer want to kill Terri? Terry: "Because he wanted her dead. Because he decided she wasn't going to live..." Here's the video if you want to see for yourself: http://movies.crooksandliars.com/Scarborough_Randell.wmv Now, who, in their right sane mind, would say a judge ruled because he wanted someone dead. UGH. And Rick Santrum's office produced a list of "talking points" for republicans on this issue. Do they have moral objectives at heart? I think not. It is clear, they are rallying their republican colleagues because it's good politics. Here's what the right has to say about why they should all get on the bandwagon: * This is an important moral issue and the pro-life base will be excited that the Senate is debating this important issue. * This is a great political issue, because Senator Nelson of Florida - has already refused to become a cosponsor and this is a tough issue for Democrats. What? Excuse me? We should should get involved because it will excite our pro-life base and because it looks good to stand up against a Democrat like Sen. Nelson? Pardon me while I go throw up. I'm sorry. I am furious. No one really cares about Terri. It is all bull shit and this poor family is paying dearly while everyone plays their stupid bull shit games. Home Posted:
