Welcome to Cook Prairie Wines. This website is dedicated to the art of Home Winemaking. I have been interested in wine and winemaking for many years. I spent a couple of years out in the San Francisco Bay Area and learned a lot about the California wines in Napa and Sonoma counties. In the summer of 2000 I took the plunge and began making my own wines. When I started making wine, I could not obtain the same quality of red wine grapes as is found in California. So I decided to focus my efforts on creating high quality wines from other fruits. This is a big challenge, as most other fruits do not have the perfect balance of sugar, acid, and flavor that grapes do. Thus, I believe the art of producing outstanding 'country' wines is more difficult than making wine from grapes. I have come to learn that some really excellent lighter style wines can be made from local grapes. I'm very excited that there is increased interest in growing grapes in North Dakota. This state is in its infancy as far as wine production goes, but it is growing fast.
I have made a variety of styles and kinds of wine since my winemaking journey began. Please explore the links on the right to learn more about my wines and the winemaking process.
This is not a commercial venture, but something I do in my home for enjoyment. I cannot sell my wines, but I am more than happy to let anyone who wants to stop by in Fargo taste my wines. If you are a home winemaker in the Fargo-Moorhead area, I would love to meet you and talk about wine.
Thanks for stopping by.
