This pictorial essay, the work of a passionate photojournalist, reflects the tidal wave of social change that swept through Australia during the pivotal years 1960–1975. It records the birth of the social insecurity and cultural decay that permeated our species as we approached the environmental and resource limits of our small planet.
The images in the essay follow a birth-to-death pathway through
the social landscape of that momentous time and they are sewn together
by a twin-strand mix of poetry and genetic comment that sketches out
their larger cultural and evolutionary context. In Black & White
thereby affords an overview of a defining moment in Australia's history,
an overview from a vantage point that is unavailable at 'street' level."
